*** EDIT:
It seems that this fix is NOT working at this time.
We will do our best to keep you updated with either a solution or that Microsoft has fixed the issue that appears to be on their end.

To fix the connection error problem with the Games for Windows LIVE Marketplace problem:

  1. First uninstall the Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace
  2. Second uninstall the Microsoft Games for Windows – LIVE Redistributable
  3. Third download and install the latest Games for Windows Marketplace installer called gfwlivesetup.exe from here:  http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Live/PC/DownloadClient and use the Download button

You should not have to uninstall and reinstall any of your .net frameworks, especially if you have 3.5 up to date. This fix should work for Vista and Windows 7, if you have Windows 8 you may need to download the full installer for the client here:  http://download.microsoft.com/download/D/0/F/D0F9F1BD-9BE6-49E4-8729-4AAAFCAC20F9/gfwlivesetup.exe and when you do install it you will want to set compatibility for Windows 7 and run as administrator. Hopefully this works for all of you who still have games in the LIVE system. Image

Just to inform you that this method no longer works as of September 16th.. A lot of talk has been said about this on the GFWL Xbox Forums as well as Steam Community forums. There’s an error coming when you try to launch the marketplace. “The Client must point to the same Windows Live ID environment as the Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant service.”

Countless reinstallations, etc have been attempted to no avail. This is a problem from Microsoft’s end. I spoke to technical support on Xbox Live Chat and they confirm that this is an issue on their side and they have informed the relevant engineers.

So far for now we will have to just wait and see if there is a solution. Also in game login it takes several attempts before you can finally login. It can take as long as 45 minutes to constantly try to sign in and after some luck it logs you in. This is definitely not normal and it points to be a fault of Microsoft! It’s a global problem, everyone has this problem right now.

    They haven’t fixed it yet?

    • Honestly, I hope the newer releases of the transmitter are without flaws. Unfortunately, instead of issuing a recall like they probably should have, they will likely sell the many thousands that they had in some warehouse from what they built when they originally built them anticipating Games for Windows LIVE to have taken off instead of flopping like it did.
